        Covid-19 Regulations    As times changed the world has taught itself to adapt to the difficult times of the Covid-19 pandemic. Public transportation was a main source of transport for many citizens in the states. As Covid-19 came along it was understood that the overcrowded occupancy of buses was no longer acceptable in the coming pandemic. Many of our daily commuting routines would change in a blink of an eye. The pandemic has created obstacles for many to commute to their everyday jobs and made it difficult for them to keep their daily routine consistent.      Government health officials have implemented health precautions in all forms of public transportation to help everyone protect themselves and their fellow commuters.   Decline In Public Transportation use Covid-19 drastically impacted the use of public transportation. Due to the sheer fact of people being terrified of coming in contact with the deadly virus or even spreading it caused the use of public transportation to drop. In an article called, “COVID-19 Has Been 'Apocalyptic' for Public Transit. Will Congress Offer More Help?” It talks about how passengers don't feel safe riding public transportation anymore because not every passenger follows regulations such as keeping a six foot distance or wearing a mask correctly. It also talks about how some of the bus drivers don't follow the capacity limits and have crowded busses.    When COVID started to create huge concern, governments across the world decided to ban or regulate air travel. However, this is not a new crisis; in 2003, SARS, a severe acute respiratory syndrome, caused a decrease in aviation passengers and profits. Revenue dropped severely for airlines across the world. Regulations and guidelines were put in place to accommodate COVID’s impact.  Revenue    COVID brought about the worst decline in passenger traffic ever seen across the world. Well, according to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), in 2019, air passenger traffic was down by 50%, in 2020 it was at an all-time low of 60% passenger traffic, and now in 2021, traffic has increased by only having 49% of total passengers.      How Did The MetroLink Get Affected By Covid-19      The Metrolink has always been a crucial part of my childhood. I would take the Metrolink with my grandmother to downtown LA from Van Nuys and sometimes to Anaheim to visit my cousins. Without this publicly available transportation, my grandmother wouldn’t have had the ability to get to her daily destinations. I wouldn’t have been able to experience the memorable moments I had both with her and my family. The same can be said about all of those who depend on MetroLink to get from county to county or shorter distances. The official Metrolink website came out with a statement informing us that from 2018-2019 the Metrolink experienced an unprecedented amount of boardings of 11,935,358. As stated by a COVID-19 behavior blog, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the same workers were frequently left unprotected by the government and institutions, which failed to provide them with adequate protective gear, supplies, and resources to protect them from the virus, resulting in many people quitting or being fired, causing the unemployment rate to rise. “At the end of March 2020, transportation worker activity had fallen nearly 40% below the 2019 normal, and by mid-April 2020, it had fallen nearly 65% below the 2019 average” (Sung & Monschauer, 2020).
